Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi Saturday categorically said the government would make all-out efforts to make the country free of drugs and a full-fledged operation against drug and land mafia would continue.
Shehryar Afridi attended a seminar on 'Awareness and Advocacy Initiative on Social Inclusion and Hazard of Drugs' as the chief guest. Seminar was organised by a joint collaboration of ICT police and Roots Millennium Education.
The drugs awareness seminar under the auspices of IGP Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan and CEO Roots Millennium Education Faisal Mushtaq was organised for sensitising the parents in particular, while the general public in general about the menace of drugs. The principal focus of this drug awareness drive was to bring all stakeholders on one page. It was more or less an interactive session. SP Sumaira Azam showed videos regarding drugs addiction, kinds of drugs and its effects as well.
Shehryar Afridi said drug mafia is playing with the future of generations. "I have told forces that there will be no compromise over the drug trade," he said, "We have to be bold against the mafia. We will make them a lesson for others to learn."
He further said this resolve is undeterred and will continue till meeting its desired results. He further reiterated that this drive is in continuation of prime minister's vision i.e. full throttle operation against drug and land mafia. The minister stated that Islamabad IGP since taking his reins has done a commendable job. A full-fledged action and awareness campaign is undertaken by Islamabad IGP. This seminar is a clear manifestation of government vision and seriousness of law enforcement agencies (LEAs). In this campaign, ANF endeavours cannot be overlooked, minister said. He further maintained that this campaign has started bearing fruits and he would specially emphasise on parents to shoulder their responsibilities and keep an eye on their children. He stated that in a short span of period, a national seminar on drugs awareness through digital driven technology will be held at Convention Centre Islamabad. He commended approach of the Islamabad IGP.
The IGP in his address thanked the minister, CEO Faisal Mushtaq, audience and media. The IGP resolved that he would continue this campaign as desired by the prime minister and the minister. The IGP emphasised on the parents' responsibilities and sensitised them. The IGP also referred painful incidents, which would damage the whole family fabric in case of a child loss.
