Sindh Food Authority (SFA) operation wing (Central) carried out inspection in various marts and a restaurant, here on Saturday. The SFA team imposed fine of Rs 30,000 on a big Mart that lack traceability record and medical certificates of employees. Expired products, including raita, yogurt and chocolates were also found whereas various products were not labelled.
Action was taken in district central. At the Paari Mall branch of the same Mart, management was fined Rs 50,000 after various expired products were found in large amount. The items included biscuit packs, imported chocolates, Mezan Oil (5-litre Pack), cheese (Happy Cow), frozen Samosas.
Bruise and stale fruits and vegetables were found placed on shelves for sale at low price whereas low quality fried peanuts and raisins were also found and many products were not labelled. The SFA team found that overall condition at a restaurant were near satisfaction but quality of rice and chicken was substandard. Some packs of expired juices and citric acid made them impose a fine amounting Rs 10,000. The SFA team also issued improvement notices to the management of marts and restaurant to do more for further improvement.
