Former federal minister for ports and shipping Kamran Michael will be produced before Accountability Court, Karachi on Tuesday (today). According to details, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore had transferred Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former minister for ports and shipping Kamran Michael, who was on transit bail in Karachi Port Trust (KPT) plots allotment case, to Karachi on Monday.
Needless to mention, the former federal minister has been arrested over the charges of illegally allotting three plots in KPT housing society by NAB Lahore. He was also accused of making illegal appointments in KPT by misusing his authority.
Kamran Michael was alleged for misusing his powers and gave three commercial and flat site plots of prime locations of KPT Cooperative Housing Society (Mai Kolachi area) Karachi to his favourites against huge bribe. The former Minister was said to have misused his authority by influencing the officials to carry out illegal orders of making allotments in 2013. The three precious plots of KPT Cooperative Society are worth of Rs1.050 billion.
A corruption reference with respect to 16 such plots was already filed by NAB Karachi, in which evidence against Kamran Michael for receiving bribe was unearthed during further investigation in the case. Kamran Michael son of M.L Michael has remained Minister for Ports and Shipping between 2013 and 2016; he has held other portfolios as well in federal cabinet during different tenures.
