Government withholds Lahore's uplift funds worth Rs 11 billion

The Punjab government has withheld over Rs11 billion funds against 512 small and big development projects in the city, said sources. Besides the ongoing projects, a total of 100 are new projects, they added. The suspended projects included availability of missing facilities in public schools, renovation of hospitals, water supply, sewerage, urban development, women development and welfare projects. Also, there are a number of projects in the areas of road sector, irrigation, energy, public buildings, livestock, industry and commerce, emergency and rescue services, environment and archaeology department.
Official sources are of the view that funds for the Lahore district are being allocated like the other districts in the province. Also, they added, funds against slow-paced projects have been withheld. They said the Punjab government has released Rs30 billion funds so far and a low allocation in the annual budget has also slowed down the release of funds.
