The panel of chair in the Punjab Assembly rejected Pakistan Peoples Party's resolution against the arrest of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani by the National Accountability Bureau after majority of the members rejected the opposition's demand.
Speaking on the floor of the House, PML(N) MPA Uzma Bukhari condemned the arrest of SA Speaker. She also condemned the arrest of PTI MPA Abdul Aleem Khan. "If corruption eliminates with the arrest of legislators, then all the legislators should be arrested," she opined. She said wives of government servants wear ornaments of millions of rupees on marriage but they are not held accountable. She said she was astonished when a former care taker prime minister and retired judge declared assets of worth billion of rupees in Pakistan and abroad. "Only a politician is held accountable. A narrative is being built in the country that only politicians are corrupt," she added. Law Minister Punjab Raja Basharat offered the opposition to cooperate with the opposition for amending the NAB laws. He dispelled the impression that the PTI government is behind NAB's action against politicians. Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Aleem Khan said as member of the provincial assembly he appeared before the NAB five times. He said he was not involved in any corruption. Earlier, a resolution was presented in the House by PML(N) MPA Kanwal Liaquat against sexual harassment of children in Punjab.
