The government has placed the name of President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shahbaz Sharif on Exit Control List (ECL), following the recommendations of National Accountability Bureau (NAB). According to sources, the NAB has recommended the Ministry of Interior to place the name of Sharif, who is also opposition leader in the National Assembly and former chief minister Punjab, on the ECL as investigations into allegations of corruption and corrupt practices against him are under way and there is a possibility that he can flee the country to avoid the process of law.
An official of the NAB said the decision to put the name of Sharif on no-fly list was made by Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal (retd) and a letter had been sent to the Ministry of Interior in this regard. It merits mentioning here that Sharif is facing the NAB investigations in the Ashiana Housing Scheme scam and Ramzan Sugar Mill cases.
