Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Muzammil Hussain has said that National Logistics Cell (NLC) may also join hands with WAPDA to take the country to the next stage of development like other firms.
He was talking to a five-member team of NLC headed by the Director General (DG) Major General Muhammad Asim Iqbal on Tuesday during his visit to WAPDA House to discuss the strategic possibilities of cooperation in mega projects in Pakistan. The areas wherein WAPDA and NLC could benefit from the expertise and experience of each other were thoroughly deliberated upon.
WAPDA projects provide great opportunities to local and international firms wherein they can be partners in progress through open competitive biddings. The nationwide presence of NLC like that of WAPDA may provide a strong basis for the strategic cooperation between the two organizations to implement mega projects in water and hydropower sectors, the Chairman said.
The NLC DG thanked WAPDA Chairman for providing them the opportunity for the useful interaction.
He briefed the meeting about creation of NLC, its organizational structure, roles, presence, core competencies and iconic projects. He said NLC is keen to provide logistic support to WAPDA for its projects, besides establishing campuses of its applied technologies institutes in the project areas for skills development in the locals to enable them to get jobs during construction of the projects.
It was agreed in the meeting that senior officers of both sides will have close liaison to identify the areas of mutual cooperation. WAPDA Chairman and NLC DG exchanged souvenirs as memento of the visit.
