A security guard of a private bank in Gulshan-e-Iqbal took away cash and jewellery after breaking around 50 out of some 86 lockers of the branch on Monday. Police investigation suggested that the main accused - branch's guard Kashif Raza - had a criminal record and wanted by police for some half of a dozen cases.
The locker owners, right after the news flashed on TV screens, thronged to the branch and expressed disenchantment over the bank's management for hiring a guard with an alleged criminal record, who took away their lifelong earnings. Police said Kashif, along with his two accomplices broke the bank's lockers in night hours with the help of sharp metal equipment and made away with the looted money and valuables.
The exact amount and valuables could only be ascertained after assessing claims of all locker holders. They made off with CCTV system of the bank as well. They were yet to be arrested as police were making efforts to trace their whereabouts till filing of this report. In April 2014, around six armed robbers looted all 60 lockers of a private bank branch in Soldier Bazaar.
