The Prime Minister's promise of construction of five million houses through Naya Pakistan Housing Authority seems to be a wishful thought, as the construction of future residential apartments are being planned by Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF).
The PTI government has published the advertisements of Naya Pakistan Housing Authority, but it is limited to a paper work only as the task of construction of flats and apartments has been assigned to Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF).
The PHAF will construct the flats in accordance with the existing policy i.e. it would generate revenue from the applicants who applied for the government constructed residences. The authority will pay the cost of land for the proposed apartments to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and civic agencies/land departments of the provinces concerned where the construction of the houses would be planned, sources in the PHAF told Business Recorder.
According to the sources, the proposed flats would not be sold at subsidised rates but would be allotted in accordance with the policy of PHAF which means that the authority would not take any profit but the cost of land as well as of construction and related services would be recovered from the applicants.
Announcing the launch of the housing scheme, the PM had said that five million houses will be constructed over the next five years under the "Naya Pakistan Housing Project."
The Premier, vowing that he will supervise the project himself, had expressed confidence that the programme would not only provide affordable housing to the poor but will also create employment opportunities in the country.
Earlier, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry had said that as many as six million people would get numerous job opportunities through the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government's initiative of Naya Pakistan Housing Project.
