A meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCOE) Wednesday reviewed the slabs of gas billing for domestic consumers and the committee chairman directed Petroleum Division to review the inflated bills so as to reduce burden on consumers. The meeting presided over by Finance Minister Asad Umar reviewed slabs of gas billing for domestic consumers and directed the Petroleum Division to review the inflated bills.
The finance minister stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan has already ordered to refund the amount charged from consumers through inflated bills. He asked the Petroleum Division to adjust the inflated bills in future billing. An official told that hopefully the process would be started in a few days to refund the overcharges through adjustment in future bills.
The Petroleum Division informed the committee about the revenue shortfall being faced by the gas companies. The committee agreed to deliberate upon the issue of revenue shortfall in the ECC meeting. The committee considered various proposals to make recovery on fast track basis from defaulters of the power sectors. It stressed the need for continuing campaign against the defaulters.
The committee decided that Power Division and Ministry of Finance would jointly work out a notification-based policy to facilitate the consumers. Such policy will help curb irregularities in the power sector.
