Board of Directors of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has appointed Mahmood Zia as new acting managing director SNGPL with immediate effect.
Sources said that the board had withdrawn the acting charge from Aamir Tufail over alleged issuance of inflated bills to 3.3 million gas consumers. The government is in process to refund Rs 2.5 billion to the gas consumers.
The decision to change Aamir Tufail was taken after the federal cabinet discussed the issue of inflated bills on Tuesday last.
Two months back, Deputy Managing Director SNGPL Amir Tufail was promoted as acting MD of the company. The decision was taken in a board of directors' meeting convened after Prime Minister Imran Khan fired MDs of SNGPL and SSGC over the gas crisis in winter.
Former MD SNGPL Amjad Lateef was sacked following the recommendations made by the cabinet's fact-finding committee.
Mahmood Zia Ahmed has been given additional charge of MD on Wednesday. He has served at numerous key positions in SNGPL including Senior General Manager (Distribution North), Senior General Manager (ES), and General Manager of Gujranwala, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and other regions. He has an illustrious carrier of over 31 years in distribution, construction, operations, and maintenance of natural gas pipeline systems in SNGPL.
