Top seed Rushna Mehboob of ZTBL, Amnna Fayyaz of Sindh, Komal Khan of Pakistan Wapda, Noor Ul Ain Ejaz of SNGPL took berth into semi-finals of the ongoing National Bank of Khyber Women Squash Championship being played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Friday.
Top seeded and current Pakistan No. 3 Rushna Mehboob of ZTBL has easy sailing for the semi-final after recording one-sided victory against Anum Aziz of Sindh in the first quarter-final lasted for 19 minutes.
Rushna Mehboob has better strategy putting her rival rival Anum Aziz of Sindh in the back of the court with some fine nick and drop shorts. She has come up with strong backhand and forehand smashes as well which caused major blow for Anum Aziz to response.
She had little resistance in the first set when she tied the tally first at 4-4 and then at 7-7 but overall Rushna, a strong title contender, dominated and won the set by 11-7.
It was the second set in which Rushna Mehboob was too good giving no chance to Anum Aziz to take much point and thus marched into victory at 11-2. Again in the third set Anum Aziz of Sindh did some resistance and even got the lead of 0-3, 1-4 and 2-7 but again Rushna came back strongly and tied the tally at 7-all before taking the set at 11-7.
In the second quarter-final Amnna Fayyaz of Sindh registered victory against Shafaq Choudary of Punjab in a straight sets, the score was 11-2, 11-1 and 11-2. Amnna Fayyaz has a strong resistance and marched into a thumping victory by giving only five points in the match.
In the third quarter-final Komal Khan of Pakistan Wapda recorded a thrilling victory against her strong rival Aiman Shehbaz of SNGPL in the marathon four sets battle, the score was 3-1.
Aiman Shehbaz won the first set by 7-11 and it was expected that she would win the semi-final berth looking after her attacking game but all of sudden Komal Khan played her superb rallies game by taking full control despite conceding the open set.
Komal Khan, hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, managed her position and won three consecutive sets at 11-6, 11-1 and 11-3 to march into victory. Komal Khan was in superb form and she succeeded in exhausting her rival Aiman Shehbaz.
In the fourth quarter-final match second seed Noor Ul Ain Ejaz of (SNGPL) upset her ageing rival Saima Shoukat of Pakistan Wapda in a thrilling 3-2. Both Noor Ul Ain Ejaz and Saima Shoukat of Wapda gave each other a tough fight and were stretched to 3-2 battle.
