Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Saturday met her ailing father Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat Jail amid conflicting reports about health condition of the former prime minister who is in jail since December 2018 following his conviction in Al-Azizia corruption reference.
On Maryam's arrival at the prison, her party workers chanted slogans in favour of the PML-N. Maryam remained in the jail with her father for some time, sources said. The sources claimed that Nawaz complained about pain in his stomach.
On Friday, Maryam tweeted that she would stand outside prison on Saturday if not allowed to see her father and physician. She said: "Nawaz Sharif had pain in the flanks. His kidney disease is at stage 3 and the doctor suspects the pain to be of renal origin. His urea and creatinine levels must be checked but the doctor who was sent to examine him was made to wait two hours outside jail. He was not allowed in and sent back."
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif's kidney scan has shown minor stones, with the medical board, constituted for his treatment, recommending surgery for removal. On the other hand, spokesman to Chief Minister Dr Shahbaz Gill said that the PML-N is doing politics on the health of Nawaz Sharif. He said that Maryam Nawaz intends to get political mileage by lying on the health of her father.
