Prices of essential kitchen items decline

The prices of essential kitchen items, especially vegetables, chicken, eggs and fruits have witnessed decline during this week past compared to preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder Saturday. The survey noted that vegetables, fruit chicken and egg prices came down while no change in the prices of non-perishable items including ghee/cooking oil, however some pulses, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and rice price went slightly up.
Chicken prices went down from Rs 5,500 per 40 kg to Rs 5,400 per 40 kg which in retail are selling at Rs 155 per kg against Rs 160 per kg, while chicken meat is selling at Rs 280 per kg.
Egg prices witnessed a further reduction from Rs 92 per dozen to Rs 84 per dozen in wholesales market while in retail eggs were being sold at Rs Rs90-95 per dozen against Rs 100 per dozen. Tomatoes prices went further down from Rs 400 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg which in retail are selling at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 100-90 per kg, onions price went down from Rs 180 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail market was selling at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, and potatoes price went down from Rs 90 per 5 kg to Rs 75 per 5 kg which in retail are selling at Rs 18-20 per kg against Rs 25 per kg.
Local garlic prices went further down from Rs 550-600 per 5 kg to Rs 500-525 per 5 kg, which in retail market were selling at Rs 130 per kg against Rs 140-150 per kg, Chinese garlic price went down from Rs 600 per 5 kg to Rs 550 per 5 kg which in retail is selling at Rs 155 per kg against Rs 160 per kg. Local ginger price further went down from Rs 700 per 5 kg to Rs 650 per 5 kg, which in retail market was selling at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 170 per kg and Thai ginger price also went down from Rs 600 per 5 kg to Rs 550 per 5 kg which in retail was selling at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 160 per kg.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 440 per 5 kg to Rs 380 per 5 kg which in retail market was selling at Rs 90-95 per kg against Rs 120 per kg; Yam (arvi) price went down from Rs 350 per 5 kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg which in retail market was selling at Rs 60-65 per kg against Rs 85 per kg; carrot price went down from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 130 per 5 kg which in retail is selling at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 35 per kg, radish price went down from Rs 180 per 8 kg pack to Rs 150 per 8kg pack which in retail is selling at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 35 per kg, and peas price remained stable at Rs 200 per 5 kg which in retail are selling at Rs 50-55 per kg.
Cucumber price went up from Rs 120 per 5 kg to Rs 145 per 5 kg which in retail is selling at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg, cauliflower price went down from 180 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail is selling at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, cabbage price went down from Rs 100 to Rs 75 per 5 kg which in retail is selling at Rs 28-20 per kg against Rs 25 per kg.
Okra price remained stable at Rs 450 per 5 kg which in retail market was still being sold at Rs 120 per kg, brinjal price went down from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 175 which in retail is being sold at Rs 55 per kg against Rs 60 per kg and ridge gourd (tori) price went down from Rs 450 per 5 kg to Rs 400 per 5 kg which in retail market was selling at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 110 per kg. Pumpkin price went down from Rs 375 per 5 kg to Rs 325 per 5 kg which is selling at Rs 90-80 per kg against Rs 95-85 per kg, tinda went down from Rs 280 per 5 kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg which in retail is selling at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 65 per kg, beans price went up down Rs 400 per 5 kg to Rs 350 per 5 kg which in retail is selling at Rs 100-95 per kg against Rs 110 per kg, Btitergurd (Kareela) went down from Rs 800 per 5 kg to Rs 650 per 5 kg which in retail is selling at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 175 per kg.
Prices of all the major pulses also witnessed a slight change as fine quality white lentil (Maash) was selling at Rs 175 per kg against Rs170 per kg, while normal quality at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 135 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 185 per kg against Rs170 per kg and normal quality grams at Rs 140 per kg against Rs130 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs120 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 130 per kg.
Ghee/cooking oil prices also witnessed no change as normal quality ghee/cooking oil is selling at Rs 150 per kg pack, while best quality ghee/cooking oil is selling at Rs 1,030 per 5 litre tin, sugar, formula milk Nido/Everyday, packed spices also remained stable.
Overall fruit prices witnessed a reduction as Iranian Kala Kilo is available at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 175 per kg, golden apple at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 115 per kg, white apple at Rs 85 per kg against Rs 90 per kg, ambri apple at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 90 per kg and Pakistani Kala Kilo at Rs 145 per kg against Rs 160 per kg.
Good quality local banana is being sold at Rs 90 per dozen, normal quality banana in the range of Rs 50-60 per dozen, while Indian banana is being sold at Rs 210 per dozen, good quality guava is available at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 75 per kg and normal quality guava at Rs 45-60 per kg against Rs 40-50 per kg.
Best quality oranges (Red-blood Malta and Khanpuri shakri Malta) are being sold at Rs 175 per dozen and Rs 180 per dozen against Rs 160 and Rs 140 per dozen, normal kinow in the range of Rs 50-70 against Rs 60-90 per dozen while pomegranate at Rs 210 per kg against Rs 225 per kg and Sapodilla (Cheeko) at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, Papaya at Rs 90 per kg and best quality strawberry at Rs 175 per kg against Rs 220 per kg while normal in the range of Rs 100-150 per kg against 130-200 per kg.
