Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtyar Monday offered Qatar to invest in energy and infrastructure sectors and Gwadar Industrial Zone. Pakistan had huge potential for investment in tourism, energy and infrastructure sectors and industrial zones and Qatar could get benefit from investing in those areas, the minister said while talking to a Qatari delegation that called on him headed by Sheikh Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani, Head of Qatar Investments Department and Head of Qatar Regional Investment Fund, here on Monday.
Chairman Board of Investment Haroon Sharif and senior officials of the ministry were also present at the meeting. The minister said Qatar could invest in Gwadar Industrial Zone, adding that Gwadar would emerge as the leading port for enhancing regional trade. He highlighted that Prime Minister Imran Khan recently performed ground breaking of new Gwadar International Airport which would provide further impetus to the development of the city.
The minister further said Qatar could also invest in various road infrastructure projects in Pakistan, adding that some projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be encouraged on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis.
He said the government was committed to ensuring investor-friendly environment for both local and foreign investors and was undertaking measures in that regard. He stated that the government was also focusing on developing tourism sector whereby new tourist spots were being discovered and developed.
During the meeting, various projects related to different fields came under discussion for future collaboration between the two countries.
