Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights Monday issued directives to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and management of Pakistan Television (PTV) to take steps for payment of outstanding commutation amount of retired employees of the corporation.
The meeting chaired by Senator Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini asked the Secretary Information and Broadcasting Shafqat Jalil and PTV managing director (MD) Arshad Khan to get approval of the proposals agreed with employees union from the PTV board.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain informed the committee that PTV administration was in a limbo as for past 47 days, the PTV MD was unable to attend his office due to union's sit in at PTV headquarters.
He said he had informed the prime minister office about the situation. Moreover, he said the post of PTV MD had been advertised and 42 applications had been received. The new MD, he said would look into the matter and take corrective measures as present MD had acting charge contrary to Supreme Court guidelines in Ataul Haq Qasmi case.
He said the incumbent acting MD and two persons appointed by him should return their salaries as they were illegally drawing the same. He said Federal Investigation Agency was investigating the issue and the case would be referred to NAB.
He said with every passing day losses of the PTV were increasing and there was unrest in the employees as the MD proposed ban on employees union and he sacked a sweeper. He said the present management had failed to present business plan of for improvement in financial position of the institution.
