The government on the recommendation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has placed the name of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Exit Control List (ECL).
Official sources said that Ministry of Interior has placed the name of Abbasi on no-fly list following recommendations of NAB as three corruption inquiries are under way against him, including alleged corruption in liquefied natural gas (LNG) contract award, import of 34 bulletproof cars from Germany for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) conference without payment of customs duty and illegal appointment of chairman Oil and Gas Regularity Authority (Ogra).
However, Ministry of Interior did not officially confirm the development.
The NAB has earlier requested the Interior Ministry to place name of Abbasi on the ECL as corruption inquiries are under way against him and there is possibility that he can flee the country to avoid the process of law. The NAB on January 2 had converted an inquiry into investigation against Abbasi for alleged misuse of powers with respect to the LNG terminal project.
