The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Monday sought details of the abandoned or incomplete housing projects announced by previous prime ministers and executed by the Ministry for Housing and Works and attached departments.
The committee, which met here with Engineer Muhammad Najeeb Haroon in the chair, directed the Ministry for Housing and Works to present the details of all the incomplete and abandoned housing projects launched by the former prime ministers.
This is a test case for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as the party has already announced to build 5 million houses in next five years. The standing committee chairman, who is member of ruling PTI from Karachi, the officials said, has been given the task by the Prime Minister Imran Khan to pinpoint those behind the delay in the incomplete and abandoned housing projects initiated by respective governments in past.
The sources said that the committee may also recommend action against concerned departments and authorities if it finds any embezzlement or wilful attempts to sabotage these mega housing projects.
