Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has advised the wheat growers to wait till full maturity of their crops before harvesting as this year rain fall was more than the normal and temperature also remained lower. In an advisory issued for the wheat crop, the department also urged the growers to clean their crop from all type of weeds.
"10 percent of the wheat crop goes waste on different accounts after harvesting, so it is necessary that growers should prepare a good take-care plan before harvesting," said the advisory.
It further urged the growers to keep listening to different messages being broadcast by the department on electronic media including radio and stop harvesting in case of rain. It also said that combine harvester is the best machine for wheat harvesting. It also urged the growers not to wait in case of full maturity of the crop or start harvesting before maturity as losses increase in both cases. The spokesman of the department said farmers can control post-harvest losses by following the directives issued by the department.
