Many firms are now testing robots to send out packages to people’s doorstep. Amazon has joined in too by introducing tiny, fully-electric robots that will deliver packages.
The robot called Amazon Scout is a light blue colored, small cooler-sized, six-wheeled, autonomous one, powered by electric battery, and has started delivering packages from Wednesday in Snohomish County, Washington.
Robot dogs could soon deliver packages right to your doorstep
The bot will not, however, replace the human drivers for delivery, but will work alongside them. Only six of the Scouts have been rolled out initially and will drop off packages Monday through Friday during daylight hours only, wrote Amazon.
Though the device is self-driving and will autonomously follow their delivery route, but in the start, an Amazon employee will accompany Scout to oversee it and ensure that it can ‘safely and efficiently navigate around pets, pedestrians, and anything else in their path’.
