Police on Wednesday lodged first information report (FIR) against four policemen for their alleged involvement behind killing of a minor boy near Safoora roundabout on Tuesday night. Also, an investigation team has been constituted under the supervision of DIG CTD Abdullah Sheikh. SSP South Syed Pir Muhamamd Shah will work as a member while assistance can be sought from any officer in the investigation of the case.
Karachi Police Chief has directed the team to investigate the case on a meritorious basis and submit the report with him within the next 10 days. FIR 211/2019 has been filed in Sachaal police station on the complaint of the victim's father on the charges of attempted and unintentional murder. Police said that all four accused have been arrested with their weapons seized.
A 19-month-old boy, Ahsan Shaikh, son of Kashif Shaikh lost his life after being hit by a bullet allegedly fired from a police gun during an exchange of fire with some alleged dacoits.
He was travelling in a rikshaw with his parents on University Road. The boy was rushed to nearby hospital, but doctors pronounced him as dead.
The killing of toddler has triggered severe criticism on the social media against police with the people posed questions over the poor performance and lack of professionalism of law enforcers. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has termed the incident a criminal negligence on the part of the policemen.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Local Bodies Minister Saeed Ghani when questioned over the criminal negligence of police expressed the provincial government's inability to control over police saying the government cannot even remove any constable from the post in such carelessness. He said except Sindh, provinces are enjoying powers over police. He said efforts are under way to bring reforms in the department.
Adviser to the chief minister on law and information Murtaza Wahab said that an investigation into the incident should not be carried out by police as they had been accused in the case.
