UoG syndicate's meeting called despite incomplete quorum

The 37th meeting of the syndicate of University of Gujrat (UoG) has been called despite of the fact that quorum of the syndicate is not complete. Well informed sources told Business Recorder that acting vice chancellor university of Gujrat will preside the meeting on April 23, 2019. Sources said that said meeting was going to be held before the completion of the term of former vice chancellor but the meeting was stopped on the interference of the officials of department of Higher Education Punjab.
The sources claimed that copies of the agenda of the meeting have been circulated. They also said that meeting was going to be held on 31st October, 2018, as per letter No.UoG/Reg/20/37/1526 dated October 22, 2018. However, it was cancelled by Higher Education Department on October 29, 2018 vide notification No. UoG/Reg/20/37/118 dated October 30, 2018 due to the quorum requirements not being fulfilled during the tenure of the permanent vice chancellor Prof Dr Zia Ul-Qayyum.
The advertisement has been given in the media regarding appointment of permanent vice chancellor of UOG by HED while the process of short listing of candidates is in final stages.
According to the University act the tenure of five syndicate members have been completed. The presence of representative of Governor Punjab is compulsory as well as the representation of eminence which includes two women members is compulsory. The representation from boys' colleges has not also been made. The sources also said that vice chancellor Gomal University who is the representative of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has also apologized to attend the syndicate meeting.
Sources said that holding of meeting under acting vice chancellor Dr Faheem which was postponed earlier due to the incomplete quorum put fingers on HED.
