The Karachi Port handled 268,934 tonnes of cargo comprising 159,621 tonnes of import cargo and 109,313 tonnes of export cargo including 5,560 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargos of 159,621 tonnes comprised of 67,172 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,310 tonnes of bulk cargo; 3,352 tonnes of DAP and 79,787 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 109,313 tonnes comprised of 49,766 tonnes of containerised cargo; 350 tonnes of bulk cargo; 47,200 tonnes of clinkers; 1,223 tonnes of wheat; 3,574 tonnes of rice and 7,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 5,560 containers comprising of 2,925 containers import and 2,635 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,266 of 20's and 715 40's loaded while 13 of 20's and 108 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,202 of 20's and 209 of 40's loaded containers while 141 of 20's and 437 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eight ships namely Nordspring, Cosco Indonesia, Maliakos, MT Karachi, AL Safa, Chemroad Nova, Constantinos and Yangze-8 carrying containers, oil tankers, mogas and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. Hyundai Busan, AS Aries, Maliakos, Chemroad Nova, Cielo Di Rotterdom, MT Lahore and Ocean Enterprise carrying containers, oil tankers and clinkers respectively currently at the berths.
