Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) carried out operation against illegal constructions in three districts as part of its ongoing anti-encroachment drive in the metropolis on Tuesday, amid resistance from occupants.
KMC officials told that the anti-encroachment staff removed many concrete structures and seized the cabins, counters, push carts and tables whereas three persons were held by police on account of resisting the anti-encroachments operation.
The action was taken at Defense View Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Expressway and near Iqra University in district east where illegal sun shades, extended portions of shops and walls were demolished with heavy machinery.
In district west the anti-encroachments staff took action against illegal animal market and removed the encroachments under bridge and adjacent area.
Encroachments were removed in district South at Bilgrami Road and near Crystal Plaza on the main road and pavements. The area assistant commissioner, police and rangers were also present during these actions. The action was taken in the light of directives of the Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar
Mayor said encroachments on roads and foot paths creating hurdles in traffic flow on main and subsidiary arteries and therefore these should be removed forthwith.
He said encroachments can not be allowed on city roads and foot paths and citizens will be facilitated through these actions.
