Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Thursday directed that a parliamentary committee should be constituted under law minister in order to control the use of drugs by youth particularly by students.
He gave these directions while responding to the demand of PML (N) MPA Malik Muhammad Ahmad and on the Call Attention notice of PML (N) MPA Rabia Naseem Farooqi in which she quoted a news report saying that every month at least five people loss their lives in Lahore due to the use of drugs. She also pointed out that Cocaine, Heroin, Ice and ESTI tablets were openly on sale in educational institutes.
Elahi said that members of opposition as well as representatives of Health department should be included in the committee. He said government can also take help from intelligence agencies for stopping the sale of drugs and arresting the culprits involved in heinous crime of selling drugs.
While responding to the question of PML (N) MPA regarding Parks and Horticulture Authority Speaker said that PML (N) government had made Parks and Horticultural Authorities but don't give funds to these authorities.
Pervez Elahi while responding to PPP MPA Shazia Abid and Makhdoom Usman Mahmood said that government is presenting a local movement bill soon in the House so that the issues of people solved at local level. He also said that majority of the private housing schemes in Punjab do not complete development work.
Minister Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Mian Mahmood ur Rasheed while responding to the questions said that management of the schemes is not the responsibility of the department. It is the responsibility of the local government department. He said that 662 schemes in Punjab were abandoned due to the operation and management issue. He also said that government is introducing new local government system in order to solve the issues of people at local level.
Mahmood said that completion of schemes in the private housing schemes is not the responsibility of the government. PML (N) MPA, Hina Butt while speaking on the point of order condemned Imran Khan's sexist comments calling PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto 'sahiba' in a rally in Wana on Wednesday.
Earlier Law Minister, Raja Basharat said Punjab Assembly's Standing Committee of Local Government passed the local government bill 2019 after detailed discussion. He also said that now the bill will be presented in the House to be passed.
