Karachi's population shown less to deprive it of NFC share: Wasim

Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Sunday said that everyone living in Karachi irrespective of politics and community should get together for the resolution of issues being faced by the metropolis. Rejecting last census results, he said the population of Karachi was deliberately not counted as per its original strength. A city having around 30 million people was shown just only 15.9 million. This was a conspiracy to deprive the city from National Finance Commission (NFC) share.
He expressed these views while speaking at a reception held in his honour in the Union Cooperative Club. How can problems be solved if this city was not getting resources according to its population. Sindh government was not calling NFC meeting owing to this fact and also curtailed Rs400 million from OzT share of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). In such conditions Barrister Farough Naseem is right to demand that the federal government should play its role in Sindh under the constitution.
Arts Council of Pakistan president Ahmed Shah, prominent business leader Siraj Qasim Teli, Mehboob Shaikh, Zubair Motiwala and others also attended the programme, whereas the welcome address was presented by Shamim Firpu.
Mayor Karachi said that vote bank of MQM remained secured despite of attempts to break it under a 'conspiracy'. Door of MQM are open for everyone who want to join it. We need unity and harmony in the city today because the city was facing a conspiracy.
