Directives to tackle heatwave in Karachi issued

The Sindh health authorities have ordered effective implementation of 24/7 emergency in hospitals and other health facilities and issued precautions in the wake of the possible heat wave in the metropolis. On the directives of Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Director General Health Dr Masood Ahmed Solangi issued various precautions to deal with the expected heat wave, said a statement issued here on Sunday.
He asked Director Health Services Karachi and all District Health Officers (DHOs) of Karachi Division to implement 24/7 emergency in all hospitals and other health facilities and do not allow any leave to medical and paramedical staff from May 01 to May 03.
He also directed that medical and paramedical staff should be increased, where needed the most. Dr Masood Solangi also directed the setting up of special wards with necessary facilities, including air conditioning, ice, generators, water supply and medicines, besides capacity to handle any emergency.
He further asked officials concerned to ensure the provision of well-equipped ambulance service and conduct a health awareness campaign about heat wave.
Dr Masood Solangi stressed it is a matter of human lives, so special care must be taken in this regard.
