The Excise Department has resumed issuance of smart cards to the owners of vehicles registered with the department. The decision was taken in line with the approval of cabinet committee and new standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been devised to deal with the disbursement of these cards.
It may be noted that non-payment of dues a month before had resulted into suspension of cards by the concerned company. As many as 350000 smart cards were pending throughout the province. The Excise Department had dispatched a summary to the finance department for the approval of payment. However, the cabinet committee has approved an amount of Rs 200 million for payment of dues to the company.
According to the SOPs, the courier company would be responsible for delivery of smart cards to the owners of vehicles.
