Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi's visit to Sri Lanka was postponed due to the security situation, Foreign Office sources said. "Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was looking forward to his visit to Sri Lanka. In view of the recent development in Sri Lanka, the visit was deferred for the time being," sources said.
According to the officials, Foreign Office is in contact with the governments of Sri Lanka and Maldives for rescheduling the visit at the earliest. The sources said that the visit was postponed following the high alert announced in Sri Lanka for more possible terrorist attacks after the deadliest Easter bombings in which more than 350 people lost their lives.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will visit Sri Lankan Embassy in Islamabad today (Friday) to offer his condolences and express solidarity with the government and people of Sri Lanka.
