Federal Minister for Science and Technology (MoST) Fawad Ahmed Chaudhry on Thursday asked Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) to develop liaison with consumer courts to entertain consumers' complaints. On his first visit to PSQCA Complex after assuming charge of the ministry, Fawad instructed the national standard body to bring transparency within its management, and lab testing procedures, saying he was receiving complaints against the authority in this regard.
He asked PSQCA to expand its network and develop consumer trust level, saying it has enough potential to provide a base for countrywide product standardization.
Director General PSQCA Abdul Aleem Memon on this occasion briefed the minister on the affairs of the authority. He informed that PSQCA has so far developed/adopted 22,648 standards; of them 6141 are included as 'Pakistan Standard'.
The minister directed PSQCA to call a meeting with Halal Food Authority to address issues facing the authority. He also asked the authority to make immediate amendments to service rule, 2015, develop new standards for children toys, and to form a high-level committee to resolve the promotion-related cases of its employees and officers within a month.
