Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information & Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday proposed Rs 2 billion Ramazan Package to provide relief to a common man. While addressing a press conference, Firdous said that despite economic restraints, the government is trying its level best to provide facilities to the people during the holy month of Ramazan.
She said Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to provide maximum relief to people during the month, and essential commodities will be provided at subsidised rates at Utility Stores outlets under the Ramazan Package.
She said nineteen essential commodities, including pulses, wheat, dates, rice, cooking oil, tea and sugar are being provided at subsidised rates at about 4,300 Utility Stores outlets.
She said that the programme is meant to provide relief to common man and the government will make sure the poor get these commodities at notified rates so that their burden can be lessened. She also said that the appointment of Maryam Nawaz as a vice president of the PML-N is a slap on the face of Election Commission of Pakistan as, according to the law, anyone indulged in corruption is not eligible for any government post. Awan termed Maryam's appointment as ridiculing the law.
