With the aim to make the world more ecological place to live in, renowned firm Nestlé has announced its efforts to cut down on plastic footprint.
The world’s largest packaged food firm Nestlé has decided to make some huge changes in order to cut down plastic footprint and contribute towards an eco-friendly environment. To start off, the firm said that it will begin eliminating all plastic straws in its products from February, and also change packaging of its chocolate milk brand Nesquik from plastic to paper.
Nestlé has also previously promised that it will eliminate all single-serve plastic from its line and make 100% of its packaging recyclable or reusable by the year 2025. It said that using alternative materials like paper instead of plastic and also innovative designs to reduce littering.

The firm will reformulate many of the plastics it uses, and phase out any non-recyclable or ‘hard to recycle’ plastics from 2020-2025 worldwide. For its plastic water bottles, Nestlé has committed to increase its usage of recycled plastics.
Nestlé also stated that apart from their 2025 commitment, their longer-term ambition is ‘to stop plastic leakage into the environment across our operations’.
“While we are committed to pursuing recycling options where feasible, we know that 100% recyclability is not enough to successfully tackle the plastics waste crisis,” said Nestlé CEO Ulf Mark Schneider. “We believe in the value of recyclable and compostable paper-based materials and biodegradable polymers, in particular where recycling infrastructure does not exist.”
