US wheat futures rose on Tuesday on technical buying, traders said, joining corn and soybeans in positive territory. CBOT July soft red winter (SRW) wheat closed up 2-1/4 cents at $4.39-1/2 per bushel. The contract has recovered since hitting a low of $4.26 on April 30.
K.C. July hard red winter (HRW) wheat ended 1 cent higher at $4.04 a bushel. MGEX July spring wheat jumped 7-1/2 cents to $5.21-3/4.
Slow planting progress for US spring wheat helped support MGEX futures, a trader said.
The US Agriculture Department on Monday afternoon said the US spring wheat crop was 22 percent planted, behind the five-year average of 49 percent.
The USDA also said the US winter wheat crop was rated 64 percent good to excellent, up from 34 percent a year earlier.
