Crackdown on profiteers begins in Peshawar

The crackdown against profiteers including mega malls and super stores was in full-swing in the provincial capital as the officials of district administration themselves inspected mega malls and super stores on Sunday. In this connection, Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Ali Asghar and Assistant Commissioner Sara Rehman checked prices at Jans Meat Shop and imposed a cash penalty of Rs 50,000/ on profiteering.
Similarly, the Continental Meat Shop of the University Road and New Continental Meat Shop at Shaheen Super Store were also fined Rs 20,000/- and Rs 50,000/- respectively. The Deputy Commissioner has vowed the continuation of indiscriminate crackdown against profiteers and have warned that on the repetition of the violation of official price-list the stores would be sealed and their managers would be sent to jail. He has warned all proprietors of all mega malls and super stores to adhere to the officially fixed rates otherwise stern legal action would be taken against them.
Meanwhile, the officials of the district administration have also started raids on profiteers in garb of common men to give relief to the people of the city. In this connection, Additional Assistant Commissioner (AAC), Shehbaz Khattak carried out shopping in garb of a common man and arrested 6 shopkeepers for profiteering.
