Tenge may strengthen

The Kazakh tenge may rise against the dollar this month, supported by strong oil prices and the authorities' desire to avoid downward volatility ahead of the June presidential election, according to a Reuters poll. Four out of nine participants in the poll, which was carried out on April 29 - May 2, predicted that the currency would strengthen this month. Three analysts see the tenge unchanged at about 380 per dollar, and two said it would weaken. The 12-month outlook was bearish, with six analysts forecasting a weaker tenge and three forecasting gains.
