Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar inaugurated the calligraphy and sculpture exhibition of artiste Anjum Ayaz in the Markaz-e-Islami on Thursday. Chairman Parks committee Khurram Farhan, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, Secretary Arts Council of Pakistan Professor Aijaz farooqui, Senior Director Sports and Recreation Rehan Khan were also present on this occasion. Mayor Karachi later while talking to media said that KMC restored the Markaz-e-Islami and now held an exhibition of Quranic verses in this hall.
Artists and performers played key role in the progress of this city. He said that this was the cultural centre of Karachi but it was grabbed in past and made a marriage lawn instead. He said that now this place has been opened for public where exhibitions and seminars will be held. He urged the youth to take part in healthy and positive activities and directed that cultural programmes be held in the cultural centers of city.
Anjum Ayaz thanked the mayor and senior director sports and recreation KMC for supporting him an said that he wanted to hold such exhibitions at the city roundabouts and parks. He said that his exhibitions of art were held in 22 countries so far.
The Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman said that KMC resolved to improve the cultural organizations in Karachi and that is why it allocated the Faizi Rahameen Art Gallery, Markaz-e-Islami, Frere Hall and Khaliqdina Hall for such events that could deliver the positive and beautiful image of the city.
