Number of JSMU's constituent institutions' grow to nine

Number of Jinnah Sindh Medical University's (JSMU's) constituent institutions grew to nine with the inception of its Institute of Medical Education (IME). JSMU spokes-person here on Sunday said the series of MPhil programme are being offered in clinical and histopathology, along with other associated subjects, at the university's IME. These were said to have been designed keeping in mind the shortage of highly qualified pathologists in a country with a burgeoning population.
The Vice Chancellor of JSMU, Professor Dr Tariq Rafi and his colleagues, since upgradation of Sindh Medical College into a full fledged university in 2012, were said to be working with a vision to and mission to produce competent professionals. Equal attention was said to be also paid inculcating strong sense of ethics among these healthcare providers.
JSMU's Institute of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation and College of Nursing were said to already started classes whereas it's recently established Institute of Family Medicine was offering a service model outpatient clinic for the benefit of the masses. University's dental out patients' clinic at its Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences and its Diagnostics Laboratory were already catering to a large number of patients on daily basis - charging. The total enrolment of medical and dental students at JSMU was said to be more than 7,000, making it the largest medical university in Sindh.
Its major components were said to include Sindh Medical College (SMC), APPNA-Institute of Public Health (AIPH), Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences (SIOHS), Institute of Health and Business Management and Social Sciences (IOHBMSS), College of Nursing, Institute of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation, Institute of Family Medicine and Institute of Medical Education.
