Business and Industrial community have expressed serious concern over too many holidays on Eids and other occasions are having a killing affect on the economy. They said that the government announced holidays on Tuesday June 4 to Friday June 7 whereas on Saturday and Sunday June 1 and 2 as well as June 8 and 9 are weekly holidays. "Although Saturday is a working day at many places but people will prefer to take another day off. And those who come would not be working to the full, they noted. "Country would remain disconnected with the outer world for almost a week which is not affordable to the export-oriented industry", they said.
They noted that from June 1, 2019 to June 9, 2019 only one day on June 3 banks and offices will remain open create huge problems for salaried and other people.
Ateequr Rehman, Economic & Financial Analyst has urged full fledged open banks on Saturdays during Eid Holidays, accepting the Inter-Bank Cheque clearances and fund transfers. We will have (4+2) 6 Eid holidays in a row, generously announced by Federal Government (Ministry of Interior). The Eid holidays have been given from June 4th to 7th June. Saturday Sunday then one working day couple with another set of holidays then again Saturday Sunday. The offices and banks will resume from 10th June. Almost 8 holidays except for Monday in between said Ateequr Rehman.
The authorities are silent and endorse the shutdown of offices, banks, financial institutions, markets for more than a week; Customs, port & shipping and logistics services to follow.
He asked, if such long, unlimited and un-ending holidays are in favor of our deteriorated economy. He added, masses are under great pressure and stress of almost daily increase of petroleum, electric and gas prices. Inflation is ballooning with all kind of deficits are increasing day by day.
