Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has prepared a comprehensive plan to eradicate substandard, illegal and harmful cosmetics from markets, and started open market sampling. According to a spokesman for the PSQCA, on special directions of the federal minister for Science & Technology Fawad Chaudhary, Director General PSQCA Abdul Aleem Memon gave special task to Director Standard Development Centre (SDC) Lahore Zone Muhammad Yaseen Akhtar for taking action against substandard, illegal and harmful cosmetics.
In the first phase, the PSQCA team led by the Director started open market sampling and sent a large number of samples to the laboratory for testing. ?Strict action would be taken against the companies involved in using harmful elements. Director Yaseen Akhtar told media that the team would seize whole prepared stock, stopping production of the companies registered with PSQCA if found involve in using harmful elements while units of un-registered cosmetics would be sealed immediately besides taking strict legal action.
