Partly Facetious : The FY20 budget

13 Jun, 2019

"What did you think of the budget?"
"Hammad Azhar gave the speech and perhaps this was The Khan's way to take ownership of the budget - Azhar is after all a committed Khanzadeh which cannot be said about the import - Hafeez Sheikh."
"Hmmm, and higher taxes have been imposed on imports."
"Ah that depends on whether you define Hafeez as a luxury item or an essential item."
"Don't be facetious."
"No seriously, the question is whether Hafeez is defined as say the English Stilton cheese or...or..."
"Stilton smells and has fungus and..."
"But cheese connoisseurs love it."
"True enough."
"A fun fact for you, a 2005 survey by the British Cheese Board reported that Stilton caused unusual dreams, with 75% of men and 85% of women experiencing odd and vivid dreams after eating a 20-gram serving of the cheese half an hour prior to sleeping."
"I heard The Khan likes Stilton."
"Don't be facetious; anyway, you reckon Hafeez was not given the option to read the budget speech?"
"Yes."
"Oh, I thought he refused given that Shabbar Zaidi has reduced the number of days any Pakistani passport holder has to stay in the country to be declared a resident - from 183 days, or six months, to 90 days or three months."
"So starting the day he took office, 20 April, he would be declared a resident on 24 July and I would like to have a look at his returns and then there is the matter of Governor State Bank of Pakistan..."
"What about Zulfi Bukhari?"
"Zulfi Bukhari at least is loyal to The Khan and abides by his directives."
"That is certainly true."
