Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar Saturday accused former foreign minister Khawaja Asif of being involved in corrupt practices and money laundering worth billions of rupees during the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) term. Speaking at a press conference here, Dar claimed he has solid proofs that Khawaja Asif embezzled and laundered billions of rupees under the guise of uplift schemes.
"Where did the former foreign minister spend funds acquired under the head of payment of the circular debt?" the special assistant questioned. Dar said Asif, who held Iqama (work permit), had been receiving monthly salary of two million rupees from a UAE company.
He said all evidences will be shared with the commission announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan. Dar said over Rs 20 billion development fund was provided for Sialkot but no development project was executed there. The inquiry commission has been constituted that will bring forth facts about Rs 24,000 billion loans obtained during the last 10 years.
He assured that the prime minister will not protect any minister, adviser or official who has harmed the country by any mean. To a question, the special assistant said the PTI government has depoliticised government departments and it has also decreased its expenditures by Rs 50 billion. Responding to another question about Kamyab Jawan Programme, he said one million youth will benefit from the first phase of this programme.
Replying to another question, the special assistant said the government is taking measures to reduce trade deficit and enhance the country's exports to strengthen economy.
