There is complete freedom of information in country, says President

President Dr Arif Alvi Thursday said that there is complete freedom of information in the country. He was speaking here at an awards distribution ceremony wherein representatives of TV channels were given awards for airing public service messages. He urged the media and the society to play their due role for nation's moral building along with economic development of the country.
Dr Alvi said that Pakistan being an Islamic state enjoys the vision to adopt the model of the State of Medina. He said that the State of Medina brought social revolution and granted rights to all the segments of the society. He said that moral fibre of Pakistan is strong which is manifested in hosting millions of Afghan refugees for decades. Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the government is cooperating with the media to air public service messages for the collective good of society.
She expressed gratitude to President Dr Alvi for taking this initiative that is connected with public sentiments and requirements. She said that the President's vision is to modernise the information sector. Dr Firdous said that freedom of speech is a basic right of every citizen and the government of Pakistan under the leadership of the Prime Minister Imran Khan is committed to providing this right to a common man.
Earlier, she said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif seems to be confused in his political approach. She said on one side Shahbaz offers his support to the government for charter of economy while on the other he gives emotional threat of not letting the government work. The special assistant said that the PML-N has no narrative except safeguarding the interests of its leadership's personal business.
