Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Ashfaq Khan has said that live monitoring of all police stations has been started in Lahore through recently-installed CCTV cameras to keep an eye on every unlawful activity by the officials.
In a statement issued on Friday, the DIG said the installations of the cameras would enable senior police officers to monitor illegal activities such as torture, bad treatment and misuse of authority and take appropriate measures against the responsible ones.
"Through the cameras, we have ensured proper monitoring of accused persons in lockups and the attitudes of the officials towards them," the DIG claimed. Ashfaq hoped that this exercise would also improve the quality of facilities being offered to the accused. He said that the live monitoring of the police station will be conducted at the office of CCPO, DIG and all divisional SPs respectively. "If someone found in any illegal act, a strict action through the internal accountability system will be taken," he warned.
