The academic committee of Area Study Centre Far East & South East Asia (ASCFESEA), University of Sindh has introduced a new discipline 'Far East Asian Studies' and recommended to start admissions to M Phil & PhD in it from the prevailing year. The meeting also included a new subject 'Chinese language' in M Phil course work. The new admissions to M Phil & PhD in 'Far East Asian Studies' are expected to begin this year just after the final approval accorded by the board of governors (BoG) of Area Study centre which would meet soon.
According to details, the meeting decided to give admissions to M Phil in Far East Asian Studies to those candidates having BS or MA in political science, economics, international relations and sociology where as the aspirants having M Phil degrees in the said four disciplines would be enrolled in PhD in Far East Asian Studies. The meeting also decided to include a new subject named 'Chinese language' in the syllabus of M Phil in newly introduced discipline.
Chaired by the director of ASCFESEA Professor Dr Ghulam Akbar Mahesar, the meeting was attended by two representatives of higher education commission (HEC) Islamabad Professor Dr Muhammad Khan from International Islamic University Islamabad, Professor Dr Syed Hassan Shaheed Suharwardi from University of Peshawar, Professor Dr Shuja Ahmed Mahesar, director Pakistan Study Centre, University of Sindh, Dr Ambreen Zaib Khaskheli, chairperson department of economics University of Sindh, Dr Mahesh Kumar Khatwani and Dr Naima Tabassam, associate professors Area Study Centre, University of Sindh Jamshoro.
Director Area Study Centre Dr Ghulam Akbar Mahesar sharing the details of the recommendations made by the academic committee told that the admissions to M Phil and PhD in newly introduced discipline would be offered from this year after seeking formal approval from the board of governors (BoG) of the centre.
