Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced that his government would increase the reward for whistleblowers from 3 percent to 10 percent for pointing out Benami properties in the country. He has also said the law provides them 3 percent reward but the government would amend the rules dealing with Benami properties to provide whistleblowers 10 percent reward money.
Regardless of any raise in the reward for whistleblowers, the prime minister ought to have made it clear whether or not his government would ensure safety and security of those who volunteer to come forward and identify benami properties. After all, owners of certain benami properties would never forgive such people. How is it that they can ever tolerate whistleblowers?
