The opposition parties on Tuesday requested Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser to issue production orders for five parliamentarians detained by different agencies of the government. According to sources, the Opposition Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) belonging to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) formally requested the speaker to issue production orders for Asif Ali Zardari, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Rana Sanaullah, Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar.
They said that detained five members of the Lower House are deprived of the opportunity to participate in the proceedings of the House. Citing the rule 108 of the Rule of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, the lawmakers further stressed that the speaker "may summon a member in custody on the charge of non-bailable offence to attend a sitting or sittings of the assembly."
The sources said that the opposition members said that being the speaker of the Lower House of the Parliament, Asad Qaiser should 'impartially' issue production orders under the rule-108 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 2007 for the five MNAs regardless of their party affiliation, so that no constituency of Pakistan remains unrepresented in the House.
