Ramzan Sugar Mills reference: NAB directed to produce Hamza Shahbaz on August 1

21 Jul, 2019

An accountability court on Saturday directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to produce leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz on August 01 in Ramzan Sugar Mills reference.
The NAB did not produce Hamza before the court and when asked about his absence the NAB prosecutor explained that the suspect was on physical remand in another case of assets beyond means/money laundering and the investigating officer of that case was not informed about the proceedings in the sugar mills case.
He, however, said the NAB would produce the suspect if the court directed for it.
Hamza's father and leader of Opposition in National Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif was appeared before the court. With the permission of the court, Shahbaz also spoke in his defence and complained about his alleged character assassination by the government. He claimed that the government had published a baseless news against him in a United Kingdom's newspaper. He said the bogus report also brought a bad name to Pakistan.
Shahbaz said the government should have presented evidence before the court, if it had any, against him. "To me, misusing earthquake victims' fund is like eating carrion," he added.
