Pakistan summoned Indian High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria on Monday and conveyed a strong demarche on the illegal actions of revoking the special status of the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Foreign Office said. According to spokesperson Foreign Office Dr Mohammad Faisal, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood summoned the Indian High Commissioner to the Foreign Office and conveyed a strong demarche on the announcements made and actions taken by the government of India with regard to Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that the foreign secretary conveyed Pakistan's unequivocal rejection of these illegal actions as they are in breach of international law and several UN Security Council resolutions. "Pakistan's resolute condemnation of the unlawful actions aimed at further consolidating the illegal occupation of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir was underscored," he said.
He further said that the foreign secretary also condemned the preceding pre-meditated steps such as complete lockdown of IoK, deployment of additional 180,000 troops, imposition of curfew, house arrest of Kashmiri leaders and suspension of communication services, among others.
"Pakistan's consistent opposition to all Indian attempts to change the demographic structure and final status of IoK was emphasised," the spokesperson said. He said that the foreign secretary called upon India to halt and reverse its unlawful and destabilising actions, ensure full compliance with UN Security Council resolutions, and refrain from any further action that could entail serious implications.
The foreign secretary reiterated that Pakistan will continue to extend political, diplomatic and moral support to the indigenous legitimate Kashmiri people's struggle for realisation of their inalienable right to self-determination.
The Indian government on Monday revoked the special status of occupied Kashmir and rushed through a presidential decree in a bid to fully integrate the occupied territories with the rest of the country by abolishing Article 370 of the Indian constitution. The illegal move was largely condemned in Pakistan as well as in the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
To express solidarity with the people of the occupied Kashmir and condemn the Indian government illegal actions, the people from different walks of life staged protest demonstrations in the federal capital. A large number of protesters took to the street to participate in the protest demonstration organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell, government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
They were displaying banners and placards inscribed with the slogans against the Indian occupation forces' atrocities against innocent Kashmiris and urging the world community to take action against the illegal steps taken by Modi government to bring demographic changes in the disputed territory.
The Traders Action Committee of Islamabad also held a protest demonstration to express solidarity with the people of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for self-determination. They also called upon the international community and human rights organisations to stop the Indian occupational forces' atrocities against innocent Kashmiris and play their due role to resolve the Kashmir dispute in the light of the numerous UN Security Council resolutions.
