China has gifted three cargo scanning machines to the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) of the Jinnah International Airport (JIAP), Karachi. The Chinese Consul General Wang Yu handed over the cargo scanning machines to MCC at a ceremony held here on Friday, which was attended by member customs Jawwad Agha and chief collectors Wasif Memon and Surya Butt.
MCC JIAP has initiated a cargo scanning development project at immediate clearing group (ICG), airport ramp area and Express Mail Service (EMS) for screening of cargo to introduce non-intrusive inspection at various sheds of Karachi airport. Wang Yu reiterated the support of Chinese Consulate to Pakistan Customs in efforts of modernization. Meanwhile, Jawwad Agha highlighted the initiatives taken for modernisation of Pakistan Customs to achieve the objectives of revenue collection, trade facilitation and effective customs controls. He was of the view that introduction of non intrusive inspection (NII) is in line with the international best practices which will strengthen the customs controls at borders.
These machines will be effectively utilised for screening cargo at AFU, ICG Airport Ramp area and Express Mail Unit, JIAP, which will help quick clearance, reduction in dwell time of goods at airport, effective customs control and maximum trade facilitation.
