Judicial activities in courts of metropolis remained largely suspended on Monday after lawyers went on strike on the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). PBC gave the call for strike against the references filed against Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice K K Agha in Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) and contempt notice issued to senior lawyer and vice chairman PBC Syed Amjad Shah.
The hearings of cases at city courts and the Sindh High Court (SHC) were put off after the lawyers didn't appear in the courts. Litigants also suffered due to non-appearance of the lawyers. The under trial prisoners, brought for hearing of their cases were also seen carrying back them immediately after their arrival when their cases couldn't be taken up.
The lawyers also assembled in the premises of courts and held demonstrations against filing of the references against the judges of superior and higher judiciary. They demanded withdrawal of the references as well as the contempt notice against Vice President PBC. They said that bar associations would continue raising the voices against the acts and designs to strangulate the independent judiciary.
